Eventually, Xehanort is going to refine his ability to sense Darkness, but unlike most Kingdom Hearts people it doesn't register as a scent, but as sound.

Can he hear your character's darkness? This manifests to him as whispers and emotions, though it won't tell him what they're thinking - just what they're feeling, IF it's negative. He'll know also if this is focused on him, but not WHY if there aren't other avenues to explain it .. like the normal course of rp. He can't similarly detect positive emotions.

For fun, as canon doesn't say it doesn't work that way, I am interested in developing this towards more symbolic sounds, music, growling, NOISE OF RANDOMNESS and other things alongside the whispers as a 'signature' for each person's individual darkness. What's yours like?

If you associate a song with your character's inner darkness, note he will NOT be hearing that exact song, and there will be no lyrics, it'll be reminiscent of it, like background music flavor.

Yosuke Otoha (bakegarasu): Yes, and the negative sounds will probably be something like indistinct yelling (older man), punches, swords clashing... general fighting sounds. Music.

Ken Amada (AU) (miseris_socios): Yep. Sounds include the roar of some indistinct creature and the faint beep of hospital machines. Occasionally it'll also include the sound of a buzzsaw, depending how active Nemesis is. Music. More music.

Edit: No buzzsaw now, but armor clanking.

Caleb Widogast (katzenpfote): Yeah. A roaring fire (like a huge blaze, not a campfire), the screams of people, the faint mutterings of a madman. Music.

Naoya (crouching_sin): Yep. His darkness is more like cold laughter with a great deal of pain in it, plus faint whispering like someone just out of hearing range. Music.

Because I'm a dork how about this but without the lyrics being discernible. Like there is a voice singing - in one case screaming - but the words cannot resolve, cannot be understood in any meaningful way. Incoherent. Anyway, that for Xion.

She... does not have much darkness. But There is a song from the game that is tied to her manga series that has some suitable music... It is called innocent battle... so the name suits her.

Ghost morganizedchaos : Go for it! That said, his darkness would probably sound distinctly... un-sound? His kind of alien is canonically associated with the space between the stars so the like. "you can't hear anything because there's nothing there to hear" of vacuum, and any whispers Xehanort might get are going to feel like they're within a bubble that's the equivalent of the comms line on a space suit helmet. ... I'm sorry he's complicated.

Asch oncedriven : First of all, Asch is a dark-presenting blade which while that does mean darkness in a more literal sense than the emotional one of the KH series, it's also associated with the virtue of justice. That, as well as Asch's personal hyperintuition, are going to be consistently prominent in whatever Xehanort might get off him. Other than that, I don't have a particular sound in mind, but there's always a distinct feeling of "this isn't a single sound, it's a chord/harmony" to him.

Feel free to sense Jack’s darkness. I’d say it sounds like gasps for air.

Jade's darkness would absolutely sound like a blizzard, raging at different intensities depending on how stressed/upset he is. So like ranging from "wind whistling through snowy mountains" to "deafening wind howl of a severe blizard" - so long as it's snow metaphor somehow it's apt.

(Also due to being magically linked to Asch there will be traces of Asch's darkness and that sense of justice just kind of clinging to him as well.)

He can sense Atem's darkness! I would say it sounds like... hm. Most mythos states Atum rose from murky waters so perhaps the sound water makes when you're being pulled down into it.

ALSO. He has a pendant of great dark magic that was made through genocide LOL so that shit probably sounds like screaming.

Rich has a lot of inner darkness with his self-hatred! It probably sounds like fire crackling and a lot of messed-up glitchy computer sounds, static and the like.

Last Words is the theme that plays during Than's encounters on Zagreus's runs. His teleporting/shifting also often makes a guh-dong sound, so bell tolls of that nature also work. (btw Death Approaches)

Yes to all of this, and basically turn on any vocal-less track from HadesGame's banger soundtrack to get an idea of what Zag's ~inner darkness~ sounds like! Add sounds of growling monsters, whips, chains, cheering crowds, bubbling lava, sounds of battle, aaaaand a deep voiced stern old man.

The sound of creaking and cracking ice, along with the crackling of rapid freezing. Underneath that, at least as long as he has the shard of Darkness in his heart, is a muffled but ominous melody.

Faux- Since he's a program (and a tiny size wise one at that), I don't think it would be easy to pick up his darkness. But he does have a lot. (he's had a rough time) So if Xehanort could, it would be vaguely a white noise/static of random tones.

[I don't recall in kingdom hearts 2 of the actual programs becoming heartless themselves. (I never played the Legacy portion from the 3ds game) The heartless there were ones that came into the system and took on the digitized looks, so I'm not sure its indicative of whether a programs darkness can be heard, or if its possible for them to become heartless.]
