I must collect my thoughts.

Elidibus and I share more than a world of origin, it seems. Much of what he speaks of, on memory loss and dimmed emotions, rings very familiar to me. Has it not been my very daily life?

Given what he does recall, I would all but guarantee he has suffered damage to his heart. It has been claimed that time and effort may restore a heart, but would it return lost memory as well? Could he be restored to what he once was, as Nobodies may be restored to wholeness? And would it in turn fill the void in my own mind?

Could this be used to heal all our people, and restore them as well? It must be put to the test, but first I will need a better understanding of how a Nobody might restore their hearts over time, and discover if this may be applied to a damaged heart as well.

I find myself stymied by a lack of resources and a need for secrecy. Would that it were possible to venture to others and seek their assistance!

But this, of all things, I must keep between myself and Elidibus. Well I know how swiftly others would come to the conclusion that my recent efforts are merely following a dark path, and not the tenuous salvation it truly is. Condemnation would be swift, and retaliation for imagined 'sins' as quick.

No. The work continues, albeit at an excruciatingly slow pace.

The bonds between heart and memory are obviously not the only ones, given the existence of Nobodies and their ability to function and remember in spite of a lack of a heart. Perhaps the soul, too, maintains its own tethers; if opportunity arises I must find and study one of the 'heartless' mentioned to me previously and put to the test if such a creature of pure heart truly knows nothing.

Heartless. What a strange designation for a creature that is only a heart.
